Mosiah 3:19 has always been a very important verse to me over the past several years of my life. The reason behind it being so important is the fact that over the past 6 years I have always had to consider others around me more often than before. Right at the end of high school I served a mission to Johannesburg, South Africa and for two years had a companion with me every minute of the day and at times the natural man came out and I allowed myself to be angry and resentful. However, the further that I got into my mission and the more in tune I became with the Spirit, the more I was aware of my shortcomings and often avoided these feelings all together or was quick to rectify them. We overcome the natural man by yielding to the enticing of the Spirit and by using the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ. My mission taught me so much and prepared me for college and living with 5 people.
And this overall prepared me to live with my wife, Alissa. She is so wonderful and loving but at times I feel angry because she isn’t me and I like things done a different way, this has reminded me of how important it is to prepare everyday by reading from the scriptures and praying often individually and also as a couple. Now I would not claim that I or we are perfect at this at all and we often struggle and fall short of perfection. However, from my religion class that I am taking it is obvious that the Lord and our Heavenly Father understands that we will get better day by day as we lean more on their strength and the power of the infinite Atonement. I think that is the greatest thing that you can do to put off the natural man because if we understand that we are imperfect and that we sin but also understand that we need to change and that we can than we will progress ever so slowly until the spirit will be there to guide us more often than naught.
